As Garnett and Anderson County prepare for a Housing Study to see what kind of housing and how much housing is needed in the county, there are other businesses to consider if more people are expected to move to the area. Where are the new people going to have their children go during the day, while they work? Anderson County Economic Development Director, Julie Turnipseed, says day care is an important tool, and they have one waiting to open:

Child care, or the lack of it, is one of the major factors in growing a viable workforce to sustain economic growth in the area and attracting new industry. Economic Development directors around the area are looking for way to get people interested in operating day care centers. Data shows that toddlers are the hardest hit, with only one opening for every 40 infants and toddlers needing care, putting a huge strain on the work force and families. Some are suggesting that child care become a benefit that companies offer in order to give parents the option of employment while having child care.
