Wind farms. Do you want them in Franklin County? According to a large number of Franklin County citizens at the Franklin County Planning Commission Meeting, no, we don’t. The Planning Commission met to hear discussion about and possibly take action regarding a MET, or Meteorological Evaluation Tower that a company called Tower Associates would like to construct in the county at 3745 Arkansas Road, north of Pomona. The tower would be used to test wind speed and other qualifiers to gauge the possibility of installing a wind farm in the county, and the possible installation of wind turbines within the next few years.

Every single public speaker, in attendance at the meeting, spoke against the tower and the eventual wind turbines it would bring. After everyone spoke, including representatives from Nextera, Planning Commissioner Rob Pearce called the MET Tower the first step in a journey of a thousand miles toward having a wind farm in the county and issues a motion to deny the tower. Commissioner Brandon Livingston seconded the motion, and following a roll call vote, the motion carried. The issue is expected to be discussed at a Franklin County Commission meeting in the near future.
