The issue of whether pit bulls should continue to be banned in Ottawa has come up again….recently someone contacted Ottawa City Commissioners to claim that Prairie Paws was adopting out pit bulls, contrary to City Ordinance. During the City Study Session, Prairie Paws officials appeared to address the issue. Katy Barnett is an Animal Welfare Attorney who serves as attorney for Prairie Paws……she wanted commissioners to consider a recent study:
Prairie Paws Executive Director, Vanessa Cowie, said the pit bull ban is making it challenging to adopt out some dogs, because some look like pit bulls but may have little or no pit bull in them as determined by DNA. The topic is expected to be a big issue on City Commission future agendas.
