The crime rate in Ottawa last year was up fairly substantially. That was due to a couple factors. Violent crimes increased as the first murder in Ottawa in 10 years occurred. Also, there were several shootings and a stabbing that pushed the rate up. However, there is one crime that stood out in the data this past year. Ottawa Police Chief, Adam Weingartner on that crime and what you can do to help prevent it:
He added that those thefts are what drives the drug crimes in Ottawa also. As the items taken in vehicle thefts are, for the most part, used or traded for illegal drugs.
