Whatever your viewpoint may be of the famous abolitionist John Brown…….no one can accurately say he was a coward. That message was clear from Grady Atwater, an Osawatomie Historian who was the guest speaker at this year’s annual meeting of the Franklin County Historical Society. Atwater related something that John Brown did in the wintertime:
Brown was hanged in 1859 at Harper’s Ferry, after he was arrested while trying to get weapons for what he hoped would be an uprising among slaves in the south.
