The crime rate in Ottawa was up nearly 25% over last year. Ottawa did have its first murder in over 10 years and a couple shootings and a stabbings, but, that’s not what drove the crime rate up. One crime stood out. Ottawa Police Chief Adam Weingartner on that crime and what you can do to help prevent it:
He added that there was an increase in shoplifting at Walmart. Also, the property crimes are what drives the drug crimes in Ottawa … as the items taken in vehicle thefts are, for the most part, used or traded for illegal drugs.
