The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department has announced it has added a new canine officer to it’s ranks. K9 Zivon and handler, Reserve Deputy Wehr are Franklin County’s first ever Critical Incident Response K9 Team. Their primary duties will be to respond to and provide support to people suffering with trauma from critical incidents, thoughts of suicide, depression, or any other type of mental health need.
Zivon graduated earlier this month from the K9’s For Freedom and Independence Critical Incidents Training program. These dogs are used to support mental health concerns and work with victims of violent crimes and other critical incidents, such as fatality accident, serious injury accidents and anyone with a mental health need. Zivon has already been out and about meeting people, including the students at Central Heights School. If you see Deputy Wehr and Zivon out and about, stop and say hi and remember, he would love to get some pets and hugs.
