Do you remember Wooly Mammoths? Probably not, the last one roamed around here about 10,000 years ago and they are fully extinct in the world now…better say…for now. A company in Dallas is working on bringing the beast back to life by 2027. The biotech company Colossal would like to reintroduce the Woolly Mammoth to the world. Why? They say by living in the same ecosystem it once lived in , it will fight climate change. Through mixing DNA retrieved from mammoths found frozen in the ice in Siberia and the Asian elephant, which is 99.6 the same, they see the mammoth thundering across the Arctic again.
Once gene editing is done, they will create an embryo and place it in an African elephant, taking advantage of its size. The goal…repopulate parts of the arctic and strengthen local plant life with the migration patterns and dietary habits of the beasts. If successful, they will attempt to bring back the Tasmanian tiger, that became extinct in the 1920s.
