A fire caused extensive damage to Grandstand Burgers in Paola in the early-morning hours yesterday, Thursday, February 2nd. According to the Miami County Republic, Paola firefighter Mark Farmer says 14 Paola firefighters were on scene as well as the Osawatomie Fire Department with an engine and three crew members.

Fire fighters made quick entry into the rear of the building and were aggressive in their approach to hit the fire hard in the kitchen area where it appears to have started. Drop ceiling and multiple older ceilings made it hard to get to. It was brought under control by cutting into the roof. Farmer says the exact cause of the fire is not know yet, but investigators from the Kansas State Fire Marshal were on scene yesterday morning to handle the investigation. It appears that most of the buildings interior was damaged by smoke, fire, and water.

They are hopeful that some of the extensive collection of memorabilia on the walls in the dining room will be salvageable.
