The testosterone in white tailed bucks is still high and sometimes two bucks might get together and butt heads….literally, and, sometimes, those big antlers get locked together. When this happens, it usually means both animals will die, unless something, or someone intervenes. That was the case of two bucks that were antler locked in Franklin County yesterday. A call came into game authorities that two bucks were locked together on a farm near Rantoul.

Franklin County Game Warden, Ryan Twellman, was on the scene shortly after and found the two bucks, one still alive, the other, unfortunately had died. With a shotgun and slug round, Twellman was able to separate the pair and free the live buck from the entanglement.

It didn’t stick around, immediately running off, unharmed. Twellman was able to issue a salvage tag for the landowner for the dead buck.
