It was announced a couple weeks ago that Garnett would be a Host City for the 49th Annual “Bike Across Kansas” this summer. The city will be the last stop on a 10 day, 542 mile tour of Kansas that starts near Elkhart in southwestern Kansas and travels the lower portion of the state, stopping in 7 different places along the way before the final stop in Garnett on June 16th. The next morning, bikers will head to the Missouri border.

This isn’t the first time the event has stopped in Garnett, although it’s been a while. The bikers rolled into Garnett in June of 2011. A lot of planning went into the festivities for that night, but, unfortunately, most were washed away by severe thunderstorms. Those camping at the high school were urged to move indoors to avoid the severe weather. Officials are hoping for better weather this time around. More details about the event will be released soon.
