Stranger danger, what to do if you get lost, fire, tornado and intruder drills, fire safety, DARE to say no to drugs, sex education, body safety, driver’s education…just a few of the things kids are taught in school. A bill that will be in front of the Kansas Legislature soon would add firearm safety education programs to grades kindergarten through 12th grade. 59th District Representative, Rebecca Schmoe, a strong Amendment 2 advocate, says it’s important to teach kids about gun safety:
That bill was passed out of the committee on Federal and State Affairs and will work its way to debate on the Senate Floor. Critics says the bill gives another thing for school’s to do outside the education curriculum while supporters says the bill would strengthen student understanding of firearms and how they should be treated.
