Did you ever ride the little train at Gage Park in Topeka when you were little? Or, maybe take your kids or grandkids to ride it recently? Well, there is a new train in town. The new mini train was delivered to the park Monday, February 20th and several hundred people were on hand to see it placed on the tracks. It’s a little bigger, 70 adults or 105 kids can ride at the same time. One of the things I remember the last time Ii rode the train, was that it was very hard for adults to get into. Not this one, the cars are taller and new seats are a bit more comfortable, so your knees won’t be up near your chin.
The City of Topeka purchased the new train because the old one was at least 55 years old and they couldn’t get parts for it anymore. The new train is cleaner as it runs on electricity, not diesel fuel. Shawnee County officials say they plan to have the train running and open to the public by Spring Break.
