The Garnett Airport has received some big money to help with upgrades and lengthening at the airport. One project will widen the runway from its present 45 feet to 75 feet, and grade out the “crown” in the strip – a hill that prevents traffic on either end of runway from being completely visible from the other end. The plan would take $4 to $6 million to complete, but would be 90% paid by federal dollars with three quarters of the city’s remaining 10% tab to be paid by a Kansas Department of Commerce Grant.

The City of Garnett received notice of a $90,000 K-Dot Grant last week for the replacement of the refueling system as well as just over $15,000 for renovations to the office and terminal. Cities receive Grants from the Eisenhower Legacy Transportation Program to pay 5% of the total cost of projects. Only 66 applicants were granted out of 166 who applied.
