The Garnett City Commission Meeting will be held this evening, February 28th, at 6:00 at City Hall in the Commission Room. The agenda is fairly light, however, there will be several discussion of note. First, a discussion about the Cedar Valley Reservoir Project. An update on the project is expected to be given, along with any issues that may have come up recently in repairing the flood damage caused in 2019. The spillway is designed to allow water to run around the dam and down the back of the outflow area, instead of cresting the dam and starting to tear away its main structure. In 2019 the spillway protected the dam but damaged the spillway channel, which could affect the integrity of the dam itself. Garnett applied for FEMA funds for the repair and was approved, but the 2020 pandemic shutdown put off the project for the past two years. The project needs to be completed by June of this year. May of last year, Mcclure Engineering told commissioners that time would be tight, but not impossible to complete. The plan was to have bids awarded by this time and the work completed by June.
