With National gas costs rising by 30% this winter, and energy costs running six percent higher, Kansas officials are encouraging those in need of help with utility payments to apply for the low-income energy assistance program, commonly called “LIEP”. Also, a new program called the Emergency Water Assistance Program, to help families restore or prevent the disconnection of drinking water and wastewater services.

The Kansas Department for Children and Families Program was created to lend a helping hand to families in need. According to the state of Kansas, $47 million assisted approximately 40,000 households with their heating bills; that is an average of $1,180 per home. However, you are running out of time. The Water Assistance Program was created last year in response to the pandemic. The deadline for applications is March 31st.
