The City of Osawatomie has announced a proposed plan to add a new neighborhood within the city limits. It has been named 5th Street Terrace. The addition is proposed to be built on a currently vacant and underutilized piece of land commonly known as “Ten Acres”, located south of Chestnut Avenue, between 5th and 6th streets and north of Kelly Avenue. The city bought the land from a private seller in October of 2021 with the intent to develop it in alignment with their states community goals. Two of those are economic development and housing of all types. A series of resolutions has gone before the City Council regarding its development.
Wright Way Homes has been selected as the developer. They are a local family owned company that is fully invested in Osawatomie. According to the plans, there are 23 buildable lots on the ten acres ground. A public hearing regarding the proposal will be held March 23rd to discuss the 5th Street Terrace addition. It will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 at Memorial Hall in Osawatomie.
