The new budget for the City of Ottawa may be more of a struggle than in past years….it could be due to an effort in the Kansas Legislature to eliminate the sales tax on food immediately, instead of being phased out over several years. Ottawa Mayor Eric Crowley says property taxpayers will likely pay more in taxes, even if the city holds the line:
City officials say the ranking of priorities will be part of the budgeting process, so that the most critical things get funded, while some less urgent elements could get cut.
