The Kansas State Climatologist office at Kansas State University, is looking for more weather observers, particularly in Anderson County. Right now, there are 760 active observers around the state; however, Southeast Kansas has the fewest observers in the state. Anderson County has only one active observer, as does neighboring Linn county. Matthew Sittle, the Kansas Assistant State Climatologist says they would like to improve those numbers. He says that without reports, they have no idea exactly how much rain fell, which makes it more difficult to properly determine drought status. In wetter months, storms may impact one part of a county or just one city, and not another.

If you would like to be an observer for the Climatology Department, contact the K-State Extension Office and they will put you in touch with the right people.
