Many people have or soon will receive their Property Valuations in the mail, and more and more people will be protesting the increase. Senator Caryn Tyson says previously when property evaluations increased, your property taxes automatically increased, but, that’s not so anymore. She reminds people that in 2021, the legislature expanded the truth in taxation for property taxes

The Revenue Neutral Rate notice is a letter mailed by the County Clerk between August 20th and September 20th, which includes the date, time, and location local governments will be voting on any proposed property tax increase. Tyson says property owners should show up at these meetings and hold the government responsible for tax increases. The property valuation department will be testifying in the Senate Tax Committee next week to investigate what is happening with property valuations in Kansas. She adds that instructions for protesting the valuation are on the valuation letter.
