The Ottawa Police Department is warning people about an increase in thefts out of vehicles. They are asking for the public’s help in identifying suspects in several thefts from unlocked vehicles on the east side of Ottawa between East 7th and East 10th around Mulberry and Sycamore. All of the cars have been unlocked. Several items of value, including a firearm have been stolen. There a some very easy things you can do to avoid becoming a victim of crimes of opportunity. Ottawa Police Chief, Adam Weingartner explains the 9 p.m. routine:
Ottawa Police say all areas of town are potential targets and if you live between the north and south city limits and the east and west city limits, in other words…everywhere! You should lock your car at night and not leave anything of value unattended.
