Last month, the Wellsville Library broke ground on a new addition and renovation of the city library. It was the culmination of over 13 years of dedication and perseverance by library volunteers who raised over $800,000 for the project. How did they do it? Through the generosity of local donors, a grant from the Sunderland Foundation, a gift from the Ash Grove Charitable Foundation and a lot of homemade pies. Each December, the friends of the library hosts a popular pie sale at the library. The proceeds from the pies – along with bake sales and other fundraisers organized by the friends – have helped the library meet its initial building fund goal.
The result? Twenty seven hundred foot addition to the existing building, a meeting room, bathrooms, storage room, a new children’s library, and expanded use for all age of adults and computer access.
After raising funds since 2010, construction is scheduled for completion in early August.
