This week has been National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week. A week to honor the men and women whose diligence and professionalism help keep our county, cities, and citizens safe. They are hidden behind the headset, but they are often the front line of public safety and the first to hear and act in times of crisis. Franklin County Sheriff, Jeff Richards:
Franklin County Dispatchers handle all emergent and non-emergent calls, as well as all radio traffic for law enforcement, fire, EMS, and emergency management. They answer approximately 60,000 phone calls and dispatches help to over 40,000 requests for service per year. When you have an emergency, and call 9-1-1, you want to hear a clear calm voice during the chaos who will stand beside you until emergency services get to you. The dispatchers in your county are those people.
