Governor Laura Kelly signed five Bills this morning, including one to remove the statute of limitations for the prosecution of sexual assault cases. House Bill 21-27, extends the timeframe for civil lawsuits involving child sex crimes, and it previously passed the House and Senate unanimously. Kelly says she is happy the Legislation passed. Such critical legislation will protect children and support victims and their families. The Bill saw testimony from dozens of survivors of abuse across the state. Kelly thanked them for their bravery and standing up to let their voices be heard.
The other bills were HB 21-60, designed to make it easier for cotton producers to secure and transport product in the state.. HB 23-26, which extends the Scrap Metal Theft Reduction Act and prohibits the re-sale of catalytic converters from unauthorized sellers. HB 23-23, provides a deadline for transferring fire district property annexed by a city, and HB 2016, which provides a tool for businesses to address potentially abusive litigation about website violations under the Americans With Disabilities Act.
