The City of Osawatomie is preparing for war. With the warmer weather and occasional rain, comes a menace that needs to be eradicated. Mosquito season is almost here and Osawatomie Public Works crews are working hard on the mosquito combat plan. This year’s plan includes fogging, which will target adult mosquitos, and treating any standing water on city owned property to prevent mosquito larvae from developing. The city is also encouraging residents to do their part by dumping containers with standing water, including clogged gutters and drains, flower pots, buckets, old tires and others to remove their breeding grounds, and treating their own property.
City officials will notify residents ahead of any fogging, which happens on an as-needed-basis throughout the season. Notices will be posted on social media, the city’s website, and sent through the “text my gov” resident notifications system.
