Anderson County Sheriff, Vern Valentine, has a message for motorist. There is a law regarding how dark your window tint can be. He says the windows have to allow 35% of light to pass through. He says it is for safety reasons and reminds people that he doesn’t make the laws, just has to enforce them. The law applies to all the windows in your vehicle not just the front windows. He says sheriff deputies will give warnings to start out with along with a time frame of 30 days to remove tint that does not comply with state law, but it is at their discretion as this has actually been a law since at least 2012. If you would like to look at the state law he refers to, Google: KSA 8-1749A.
Valentine says other law enforcement agencies across the state are starting to crack down on this law. That means if you are diving through another town, local officers can pull you over for the violation, and the Kansas Highway Patrol can make the stop anywhere in the state of Kansas.
