The Ottawa City Commission has approved recognizing May 11th through the 17th as Police Week. The event recognizes officers killed in the line of duty. Commissioner Mike Skidmore took the opportunity to talk about the Defund the Police Movement:
Ottawa Police Chief Adam Weingartner will give formal remarks during the May 17th City Commission meeting in a formal Commemoration of Police Week. Ottawa has had one police officer die in the line of duty. Captain Robert Cowdin died of a heart attack suffered as he responded to riots in Garnett in 1963.
