May 14th through the 20th is Police Week in Franklin County and the Nation and local law enforcement officials are participating. To honor the fallen officers, the Franklin County Commission approved a Proclamation of the event. Franklin County Sheriff Jeff Richards paid tribute to one fallen deputy.
The other local fallen officer is Ottawa Police Captain Robert Cowden, who died during a Garnett riot in 1963.
