Ottawa police have a message for all drivers…wear your seat belt or get a ticket. The annual “Click It or Ticket” campaign will start Sunday, May 28th and run through June 4th. You can expect to see an increased police presence on the roads as Ottawa joins 160 other law enforcement agencies in vigorously enforcing the Kansas Occupant Restraint and other safety laws. Ottawa Police Chief, Adam Weingartner says the goal is to educate the public, not punish people:
When you buckle up before driving or riding in the front seat of a vehicle, you cut the risk of a fatal injury in a crash in half. A pretty good return on the investment of putting on a seat belt. Being buckled up during a crash helps keep you safe and secure inside your vehicle, as being ejected from a vehicle is almost always deadly. Additionally, your vehicle’s other safety features, particularly air bags, can’t work as effectively if you’re not buckled up– they are designed to work together.
