For many years, the Kansas State Research and Extension Service has partnered with the State Division of Conservation in all the Districts counties to provide cost share money for soil testing for local producers. Recently the Conservation Division has decided to end the cost share program. This means that soil tests are no longer free. In April Osage and Anderson County soil tests, which includes ph, buffer ph, p and k, plus nitrogen application based on yield goal increased to $11.00 per sample, with a second package available to include all of the listed items plus organic matter and zinc for $17.00.

Beginning July 1st, those same prices will be in effect in Franklin County as well. The Franklin County Conservation District wants you to know it is a statewide increase, not just individual counties. They said they appreciate the partnership they have with the local extension office staff and will look for new ways to partner with them on other conservation projects.
