The medium age for farmers across the Nation is rising and that is alarming for the AG industry and the U. S. Department of Agriculture. As more and more farmers are retiring, or choosing to leave the field, a push is on to recruit new and beginning farmers. Administrator of the USDA’s Farm Service Agency, Zach Ducheneaux, told the House AG Subcommittee about efforts to help make credit more available to beginning farmers:
The median age for a farmers in Kansas is 58. According to the USDA, the average age of farmers across the nation is 60, with nearly a third of them being 65 or older. As farmers look to the next generation to take on the job of feeding America and the world, the USDA wants to make it easier to get started on the job.
