A major project in the City of Ottawa’s Capital Improvement Program is a major system conversion of the electrical system, a project that has been on the Master Plan for over 15 years. Utilities Director Dennis Tharp describes the importance of the project and says the way come circuits have been converted in the downtown area in the past are not longer available:

He added that the new system would have an estimated life of 25 years. Right now, many of the circuits in ottawa are nearly 75 years old. It will be expensive at about 3 and a half million dollars, he added that his project, projected for 1025, is a project directly related to the recent rate increases.
