A two vehicle crash yesterday afternoon, June 1, at Highway 59 and Douglas Road sent one woman to the hospital with serious injuries. Just before 2:30 yesterday afternoon Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputies and EMS were dispatched to the incident. Upon arrival, they found that a car had been t-boned by another vehicle and the 40-year-old woman in one of those vehicles was entrapped in the vehicle. Not a lot is know about her injuries at this time, except that she suffered an open fracture in one of her legs and other injuries.
Crews with extrication equipment were called to the scene and EMS requested an air ambulance be sent to the scene. Due to weather issues in the Kansas City and Topeka areas, those helicopters were not able to get off the ground. An air ambulance from Chanute was called and after the woman was extricated from the vehicle, transported her to an area hospital for injuries suffered in the crash.
Highway 59 was closed for a time while crews worked the scene and the air ambulance landed and took off. Kofo will have more details as they become available.
