A pretty cool honor for a K-State student from Greeley. The Kansas State University Steel Bridge Team participated in the American Institute of Steel Construction, National Steel Bridge Competition last weekend on the campus of the University of California at San Diego. Koby Hesse from Greeley, is a senior majoring in Civil Engineering. The team took second place as hosts of the American Society of Civil Engineers Mid-America Student Symposium Regional Competition in April, which challenged participants to create a one-tenth scale steel bridge — approximately 20 feet in length. Each bridge was scored based on lowest cost, and the K-State bridge came in second with a cost of $21 million. Finishing second overall qualified them to make the trip to Nationals and finish the year strong. The University of Florida won the overall competition and although the KSU team didn’t place in the top ten, it was deemed a successful trip.
