An accident involving a double trailer semi truck injured the driver and shut down I-35 southbound for about 2 and a half hours yesterday, June 6th. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a semi truck, driven by 50-year-old Mohamed Raabi, was southbound at mile marker 195, about two miles south of the Wellsville exit, when for an unknown reason, went off the roadway to the left, overcorrected, then went across both lanes of travel, going off the road way to the right, overcorrecting again, causing the truck to roll onto its side, blocking both southbound lanes. Raabi was taken to AdventHealth Ottawa for treatment of minor injuries. A passenger in the truck, 41-year-old Ali Mohamed Moalin was not injured.
Another accident last night, on John Brown Road. Fifty four year-old Janet Hayes of Eureka, was westbound when she struck a deer, causing her car to leave the roadway and strike a barbed wire fence. She was transported to the KU Medical Center for treatment of her injuries
