Ottawa Public Works Director, Michael Haeffle, is part of the Kansas National Guard and recently got back from a nine month deployment in Iraq. He credits former City Manager, Richard Nienstedt with giving full support to all city employees that are in the Guard and never questioning their commitment to our Nation:
Employer support for the Guard and Reserve member Rod Moyer recognized the City of Ottawa for their support. He presented the Above and Beyond Award to the city.
Nienstedt has great respect for the military and has often said the military is why he was able to have such a successful career. Nienstedt served in the Air Force from 1971 to 1975 in Germany and other duty stations across Europe.
