Kansas is relatively well prepared to respond to public health emergencies, but still needs to improve hospital safety and flu vaccination rates. Those are some of the findings from a recent report by the nonprofit group, Trust for America’s Health. The Kansas Health Department says the state continues to work on outreach to the public on ways to fight disease outbreaks and a big part of it is in education. Educating people on the availability of vaccines, so they can make informed decisions about vaccinating themselves and/or their family members. The report studied how well states are prepared for diseases and natural disasters. This year’s report placed 19 states and the District of Columbia, in the high performance tier. Kansas was among those in the high performance tier.
