The City of Osawatomie is highlighted in the May edition of the “Kansas Government Journal”, a publication that reaches every city, county, and corner of the State of Kansas. It gives an extensive history of Osawatomie and features the goals of the city moving forward. Goals include clean up the community, including housing, unkept structures and establishing a solid waste utility, repair and maintain streets, invest in and repair infrastructure. A wastewater treatment plant is underway and the city has entered into a power agreement for installing a five megawatt solar array that can serve 50% of the community. Last, invest and repair soft infrastructure. The city is renovating the library, has developed the Mile Zero Trailhead and is seeking a National Park Designation for the John Brown Cabin and Osawatomie Battlefield sight.
