We’ve been hearing the report on how bad the winter wheat crop is looking this season. The drought has really taken a toll in the central and southern plains. Many farmers are choosing to abandon the fields. Ever wondered why they choose abandonment? Dave Green, of the Wheat quality Council says they are doing it for crop insurance reasons and recent rains have them thinking of a new crop:
The state of Texas could have up to 76% abandonment. Kansas is a bit more fortunate. Estimates of abandonment coming in at 25 to 33%, but that could go higher in the next few weeks.
