We’ve all heard crazy fish stories, or maybe told a few ourselves about the one that got away. You know, broke the line…had to be a world record fish…if only I had a camera…it goes on and on . But, one man in Kansas has a story and it’s not a made up. A Topeka man has etched his name in the record books. He caught a small mouth buffalo that weigh in at nearly 65 pounds, 45 inches long. Where? Just down the road by lawrence, in Clinton Reservoir. The previous record was a mere 51 pounds, 41 inch smallmouth buffalo from a private farm, interestingly enough, also in Douglas County. The Kansas Department of Wildlife has certified the new record, and has pictures to prove it.

All good, but a guy in Italy gave us new reason not to swim in rivers. He caught at nine foot long, 330 pound catfish on the Po River, using a fishing pole and lure. The fish was certified by the International Game Fish Association. He released the fish after it was certified so another angler could catch the river monster.
Harold Ensley would be proud!
