Prairie Paws Animal Shelter is filled to capacity and they need your help in a big way. Director Vanessa Cowie says they have taken in 240 animals in the last 40 days and they can’t adapt out the animals fast enough. As of yesterday afternoon, June 21, they were housing 72 animals in the building and had many others out in foster care. So, what is causing this sudden influx in animals. Cowie says it’s not just a local problem:

She says there are four main things people can do to help alleviate the problem. Number one…adapt a pet from them. Number two…foster some animals. Many of them are kittens that need fostered until they are old enough to be adapted. Number three…spay and neuter your pets to prevent unwanted litters. They have a low-cost program available. And finally, number four…donate. While they appreciate material items, monetary donations can go a lot further in getting the things they need, like medicine for sick animals. Give them a call today, or head out to the shelter to make a donation, offer to foster, or adapt and give an animal a forever home.
