As of last night, tests on the letters mailed to over 100 Kansas Republican leaders that contained a mysterious powder substance, have all come back negative for anything toxic or poisonous. 59th District Representative, Rebecca Schmoe, received one of those letters. She says she gives great thanks to local and state emergency response teams for the prompt and professional manner in which they handled the events as they unfolded on Friday, June 16th. She also appreciates the quick and thorough response from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, the Ottawa Police Department, the Ottawa Fire Department, EMS/Franklin County Emergency Management, Kansas Bureau of Investigation and Hazmat teams.
The Kansas Republican Leadership Team issued a statement regarding the situation, saying basically the same thing. They added that while they don’t know who is behind the threat….yet. They will not be intimidated by extremists who look to undermine the will of the people they were elected to serve. They appreciate all the prayers and support they have received from communities all across the state and will continue to stand strong moving forward.
