Kansas will receive over $451 million in funding to support broadband construction to connect all Kansans, ensuring access to high speed internet across the state. This investment is made possible through the Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment led by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration Office at the U. S. Department of Commerce. They are providing over $42 billion to state broadband offices to expand broadband to unserved areas across the country. Third District Representative, Sharice Davids, says that our state’s current broadband system does not operate at the needed level for people in our state to efficiently access crucial resources such as employment opportunities, virtual learning, and health care, and this new program will help close the digital gap.
The Kansas office of Broadband Development is encouraging Kansans to complete a speed test and participate in the process. To participate, all you have to do is visit the official website, “broadbandk-s.com” where you can complete a quick and simple online speed test. This test, only takes a few minutes, and will provide valuable data on internet connectivity throughout the state.
