A report of a structure fire near Wellsville Sunday afternoon, June 25th, caused extensive damage to a car and the garage it was in. The call came in at 3:45 Sunday afternoon as a structural fire at 2935 K-33 Highway near Wellsville. A demolition derby car owned by 39-year-old Nickolas Erlacher caught fire in his shop while he was working on it. He was able to get out of the building safely, but could not put the fire out on the car.

When the first fire crews arrived on scene, they reported the garage as fully engulfed and quickly called other units as backup and then went to work fighting the blaze. Several rural departments responded to the call, however the first crew to arrive was able to put the fire out. The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department reports that the fire caused extensive damage to the building and its contents. There was no estimate of the damage caused, or any information on how the fire started.
