After a year and a half of Legislative effort, the City of Ottawa will become the first Kansas site for a Safe Haven Baby Box under a new law in the state. Representative Timothy Johnson presented Ottawa Assistant Fire Chief, Shawn Dillon with the first donation of $500 last week in Topeka. Ottawa resident Angie Malik first approached the Ottawa City Commission about the possibility of the Box back in early May. She explains founder Monica Kelcey’s goal and how you can help Ottawa get their box:

No public funds will be used for the device. If you would like to help the Ottawa Fire Department and their efforts to raise donations, get more information and make a donation by following the link on the fire department Facebook, and follow the direction on the QR code. That link is also posted on kofo’s Facebook page.
