Kansas Highway Patrol personnel assisted 1,085 motorists over the Fourth of July Holiday reporting period. The KHP is releasing its Independence Day Holiday activity report. The reporting period for the holiday ran from 6 p.m. Friday, June 30 to 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, July 4, 2023.
The patrol says they worked two fatal, non-DUI related crashes, involving two non-DUI related fatalities over the holiday; however, DUI arrests were up ignorantly over last year with 31 arrests, compared to 18 in 2022. Also up were speed citations and warnings with just over 2,000 this year compared to 1,700 last year. Another area that showed a significant increase were seatbelt citations, which went from 111 last year up to 172 this year, a 36% increase
