The Garnett community has seen its share of economic development the past couple years and one of those projects that has been eagerly anticipated open a few weeks go. The new Shortstop gas station and convenience store opened June 21st on the corner of Maple and Park Streets. Anderson County Economic Development Agency Director, Julie Turnipseed, says they are hoping for even more new businesses:
The city of Garnett and Anderson County are looking at the need for more housing as a new micro chip plant begins construction in Burlington. Once complete it will offer hundreds of jobs within driving distance of Anderson County and the hope is to attract people to live in the county, which, in turn, leads to the need for more businesses to accommodate the influx of people.
