Law enforcement in Douglas and Johnson Counties involved in a vehicle chase on Saturday that ended with a man in jail. About 9:30 that night, Lawrence police noticed a vehicle that had been reported as stolen earlier from Central Lawrence. It was driving near 23rd and Franklin Road. The driver fled east on Kansas Highway 10, in speeds up to 95 miles per hour. He was able to evade stop sticks that had been deployed in the area. However, a Baldwin police officer was able to successfully deploy stop sticks near County Road 1061 and North 200 Road to deflate the tires. However, the pursuit continued east on 56 Highway into Johnson County and a Douglas County Sheriff’s Office deputy was able to disable the vehicle near Edgerton. The 26-year-old driver from Leavenworth was taken into custody without incident and turned over to the Lawrence Police. He was booked into the Douglas County Jail on suspicion of vehicle theft and fleeing and eluding. The man’s name was not released.
