Sometimes, people do extraordinary things without even thinking about it. Take the Ottawa High School senior who was at Casey’s a couple weeks ago, when a 64 year old man came in, and passed out, hitting his head. Everyone just stood there looking, but not this guy. Seventeen year-old Zetan Vink rushed to him, grabbed a towel and applied pressure to the gash on the man’s head, and got him some water to drink and put a cold towel on him as they waited on EMS to arrive. Another example: last week, he was outside in his yard and witnessed a car jump the curb, go through the grass and hit a parked vehicle at the USD 290 Maintenance Building. He ran into the house and told his mom to call 911, then ran across the street to the wreck and was able to help a little girl out of the vehicle, turned off the car, and stayed with the driver until emergency personnel arrived. That driver had been stung by a wasp and had an allergic reaction. Thankfully the little girl was uninjured. The driver was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Zetan Vink didn’t hesitate in either of the incidents. He jumped in to help because there was a person in need of help and he was going to do all he could to help them. For his actions, he is awarded the KOFO Good People Award, an honorary award given to good people who do good things. Congratulations Zetan, the world needs more good people like you!
