The Kansas Department of Health and Environment is pleased to announce the recipients of the Solid Waste Reduction Grants. Grants totaled nearly $333,000 and were awarded to 14 different cities, counties, and organizations. One of those receiving grant money was Lake Mary Center in Miami county. They received just over $27,000 , consisting of $10,500 for a dump trailer for composting and $16,500 for recycling storage. Also, Osawatomie received nearly $6,000 for education and outreach. One other receiving a grant in the KOFO listening area is the City of Lyndon who got $32,000 for a wood chipper, and Kansas Trophy Outfitters of Lyndon who received got $62,000 for a walking floor trailer for composting. The grants are funded by revenue collected through the Solid Waste Tonnage Fee, which is $1 per ton of solid waste disposed of at any solid waste disposal area in the state.
